Commission partners with Swing for Smiles on playground accessibility

Braintree Disabilities Commission partners on wheelchair swing project. The Commission on Disabilities heard a presentation from Tighe and Lori Clements of the Swing for Smiles Foundation, established to honor their daughter Clara, who died two years ago from anoxic brain injury complications. The foundation aims to install a $100,000 to $130,000 wheelchair-accessible swing at South Street playground and has raised approximately $15,000.
The commission also reported progress on ADA door-pressure compliance audits at local businesses, with numerous locations requiring adjustments and approximately ten additional sites pending inspection. ADA Coordinator Kristina Ziniti noted that the town can jointly pursue a Massachusetts Office on Disabilities project grant to support the swing installation.
