Braintree Community Preservation Committee approves $1.3 million for fire station roof restoration. The committee voted unanimously to appropriate $1,309,629 from the Historical Resources Fund for the Braintree Fire Department's roof and façade restoration project at 1 Union Place. The scope includes replacement of the building's asphalt roof with synthetic slate shingles, new gutters, downspouts, and wood cornices, addressing years of water damage that led to significant interior damage to firefighters' living quarters in fall 2024.
Fire Chief Frederick Viola said the roof replacement is essential before beginning broader renovations to the 96-year-old historic building.
