Select Board · Meeting of September 2, 2026

Braintree Town Council approved a $213,800 eminent domain order Wednesday, clearing the way for a $9 million reconstruction of Allen Street between Shaw Street and Quincy Avenue. Assistant Director Thompson said the town must secure right-of-way access across 17 properties before a federal funding deadline expires this month. Councilors separately tabled an intermunicipal veteran services agreement with Holbrook and Avon after Councilor Reynolds questioned how the towns' $7,000 and $10,608 contributions were calculated; Veteran Service Officer George Andes conceded his current staff is "not sufficient" to meet demand.

The council also voted to transfer $270,000 for union pay raises and $240,000 for non-affiliated staff, both retroactive to July 1, 2025. Director Jacques announced the Ivory Street recycling drop-off center will reopen two days a week, Mondays and Saturdays, starting in January, after what Councilor Reynolds called the "ham-handedness" of the earlier cutback.
