Select Board · Meeting of October 6, 2026

Braintree councilors grilled the police chief over years of undocumented Flock camera audits before tabling the discussion. Police Chief Kilroy and Lieutenant Joe Malloy told the Town Council that between 2023 and mid-2025 the department logged 28,000 license-plate camera searches, only two with a case number, and that one officer ran a single plate "1,066 times" before being caught. Kilroy acknowledged audits "were conducted on a regular basis" but said "there is no official documentation" of them before this spring.

The department this week cut off out-of-state data access after as many as 400 agencies nationwide could previously search Braintree's camera data; roughly 60 Massachusetts agencies retain limited access to about 10 crime categories. Councilors also questioned an $11,750 developer mitigation payment funding the program through 2029 that was never brought before the council. The board voted unanimously to table the discussion to its Oct. 20 meeting.
